1) What does “Poydras” mean?
Poydras Gaming Finance Corp. takes its name from Poydras Street in New Orleans, Louisiana. Poydras Street is the major artery in in New Orleans’ central business district and is named after philanthropist Julien de Lallande Poydras (1740 – 1824).
2) What is a gaming machine?
“Gaming Machine” means a mechanical or electronic device with an electronic random number generator or bingo ball drop upon which a person may play games of chance for consideration to win monetary prizes. A common example would be a slot machine.
3) What is a “route” or “placement agreement”?
A gaming lease is also known in industry parlance as a “placement agreement” or a “placement” and also sometimes called a “route” when it describes Gaming Machines placed outside of a casino, such as those placed in a restaurant or bar.
4) What do “Class II” and “Class III” gaming machines mean?
“Class II Machines” means a Gaming Machine classified as class II gaming under IGRA (Indian Gaming Regulatory Act of 1988, a U.S. federal statute). Examples would be server-based electronic bingo games wherein multiple players compete against each other for a common prize.
“Class III Machines” means a Gaming Machine classified as class III gaming under IGRA (Indian Gaming Regulatory Act of 1988, a U.S. federal statute). Examples would be slot machines where a customer plays against the machine itself (that is, against the house/casino).
5) Why don’t you use the term “First Nations”?
While “First Nations” is the preferred term in Canada (where Poydras’ shares are publicly traded on the TSX Venture Exchange), it is not used in the US, the market in which we operate. Instead, terms such as Native American, tribal and Indian are commonly used without issue in conjunction with the gaming industry.
6) Why don’t you operate in Nevada?
While most people are familiar with Nevada, and specifically Las Vegas as the heart of casino gaming in the US, more than 90% of the slot machines in the US are located elsewhere across regional markets in almost every state. High profile, often publicly held Las Vegas casinos have access to financing options and capital that are largely unavailable to smaller and mid-sized casinos that Poydras Gaming Finance services.
